Microsoft Includes Reset Button In Windows 8

Many of us may have faced issues in reinstalling the Windows operating system in our PCs. After a few months or years, the performance of the system starts to degrade, and this is the time when we really face issues with the operating system. In such cases, we tend to install a disc and spend a full day re-installing the operating system and all the apps. However, this does not always turn out to be successful either.

In most cases, the actual reasons for the deterioration of the performance of the PC emerge from the hardware issues in the system, rather than from the operating system. This may also be due to the apps the user has installed in the computer. The PC rot has always been a major issue in Windows 7. However, many users feel that this version is much better as compared to the earlier ones. Hence, Microsoft has decided to fix this issue in the next version of Windows that would make the re-installing of the operating system easier and faster than ever. The advanced Windows 8 features include a Reset button, which would enable the users to reinstall Windows without using a disc.

According to Microsoft, in the latest version of the operating system, the user just needs to scroll down to the bottom of the General area in the Windows 8 settings, and choose the appropriate action, wherein a system refresh would re-install Windows 8 without removing the user’s files or data. Along with it, some of the apps that existed in the system would also remain intact. However, if the user is confused with the procedure, the Windows 8 features also provide a facility: you can choose the Reset your PC and start over option to remove all data on your computer, and simply restore it to factory conditions. Some PC makers have been offering this feature on notebook and desktop computers by setting aside protected partitions on the hard drive with a system restore image. However, now it is built right into the operating system. This will definitely make more users upgrade their systems to Windows 8, and Microsoft would be able to retain its customers and expand its business.

Either way, the process of reinstalling the operating system in Windows 8 PCs is designed to run much more quickly than an old-fashioned Windows install, using a disc.

Fix A Stuck Or Broken Key On A Laptop

Most laptop users must have come across a scenario where their laptop key gets broke or stuck while they are in the midst of typing. When such issues happen, users will have to adjust by using an alternate key to communicate.
However, fixing a stuck key on your laptop is relatively an easy task and does not require assistance from a computer repair professional! Let us see how to troubleshoot a stuck key on your laptop in the easiest way!
Follow the below mentioned instructions to troubleshoot the laptop stuck key issue.

Instructions
  • Switch off your laptop, open the battery case, and dismantle the battery.
  • Use a damp cloth and gently clean around the affected key. Now use a dry cotton swab to remove the dirt under the key. Make sure not to exert much pressure on the key as it could break the key.
  • After this process, firmly press the key and check whether it works fine now. Because removing the dust particles under the key will put the key back at its right position.
  • Get a nail clipper. You will notice there is a cleaner extension to your nail clippers, a flat extension with a hook on the end. Pull it out and place the hook under the left corner of the key you wish to dislodge.
  • Most times, the key gets stuck because of the collapsible spring going off-center. So shake it gently, for as long as it takes the key to click into place. If this does not work, you are going to have to break the key up into smaller pieces.
  • Now use the fingernail cleaner to lift the top part of the key. There will be a collapsible plastic hinge that is held by a rubber hinge. Pull both these out gently until you see a flat surface. Now use the cotton swab to remove all the dust accumulated.
  • Assemble the key components back into your keyboard. Insert the rubber piece back on the flat surface which you just cleaned using the cotton swab. Insert the key retainer back at its position and click it to insert it. Ensure not to exert much pressure as it can tamper the plastic case. Finally place the key on top of the holder and gently click it to insert it into its location.
Seek further assistance from a computer repair technician if you are still unable to resolve the issues with your laptop.

Repairing Windows Address Book DLL In Outlook

The Windows Address Book is a component of Microsoft Outlook Express which helps the users to keep a single contacts list, which can be shared by multiple programs. It has got many features such as the storing of contacts inside the folders, storing information in different tabs for personal and business use, contacts printing as memo, business cards, etc. The wab.dll file can be termed as a vital part of the Outlook 2000 application in Windows 95 and 98. Sometimes, you may have come cross such a message while opening Outlook, which says An error occurred while attempting to open the Windows Address Book. Unable to find the wab.dll. A dll can be considered as a small file that contains part of a software program and helps the system to retrieve the contact information. The fact is that a program would not be able to perform its functions without the presence of DLL file.
You can follow the following steps to repair the Outlook address book:
  • Click the Start button on the left bottom of your desktop. Now, select Search and click on All files and Folders.
  • Now, type Wab32.dll and then press Enter on your keyboard.
  • Now, you should go ahead and rename the file. So, right click on the file and select the Rename option. Sometimes, you may not be able to find the file. It means that the file may have got erased at some point.
  • If you have found the file, then replace the original name by typing Wab32.old and press Enter. Now, you can close the search window. Your Outlook address book information would remain intact after you rename the file. This happens because the wab.dll itself does not store any information. Instead, it allows the system to access the information in another location.
  • As mentioned in the third step, there may be instances where you might not be able to locate the file. In such cases, first click Start followed by Settings. Now, click Control Panel.
  • You will see an option Add/Remove programs. Select the option and then, select the Windows Setup tab at the top of the menu. Now, click Components and then uncheck the box next to Microsoft Outlook Express. Now, click Apply and wait for the program to uninstall.
  • Once it is installed, recheck the box to Microsoft Outlook Express. Now, click Apply to reinstall the program.
  • Restart your computer now.
Hence, you can follow these instructions to repair the Windows Address Book DLL in Outlook. You can also check the official Microsoft website for additional details.

Tips To Resolve Reinstallation Problems Of Windows Vista

Have you come across situations where you had difficulty in reinstalling Windows on your computer? Usually the problems with reinstallation of Windows Vista OS will begin once the system tries to boot twice, and asks the user, to select from either Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows Vista to boot from.

If the user were to select the Microsoft Windows Vista option, then he would not be allowed to view the contents of the other drives in the partition. The user will also be repeatedly asked for permissions. If the user were to select the Windows Vista option, then the system will declare that there is no more storage space left, and that no more data can be added. Here, in this section, we will discuss about these Vista problems and the methods to fix them.

Cause of this problem

The main cause of this problem is the accidental deletion of a partitioned drive during the reinstallation process of the Windows Vista operating system. Once this file gets deleted, a new partition will be formed, and it will lead to the separation of the drives, and their unevenness, in the sense that one partition will be full and the other will be set into restricted access.

In order to repair this problem in the Vista computer, you will have to remove all the excess partitions made by the damaged or corrupted reinstallation process of the Vista operating system. After the partitions have been completely emptied of data, the reinstallation process can be carried out. Make sure that the reinstallation has been carried out with the D: partition before the C: partition. The Vista operating system can then be reinstalled into the C drive.

Some tips for resolving this problem

One of the few gripes that the users had of the Vista operating system was that the installation process was a much harder process than the Windows XP installation process. It will become apparent here too, when you try to install the operating system in your computer.

Make sure that you keep a back up of all the data in your system before you set out to start the reinstallation process on your computer. Once the reinstallation process begins, there is a risk of data loss from the system, so it is always good to be on the safer side, and create a back up of all the files in the computer.

In case you need any assistance in carrying out the troubleshooting procedure, you can get in touch with the Windows tech support team.

Working With Microsoft Windows 8 Operating System

Is Microsoft Windows 8 designed for touch-screen tablets and computers mainly? The acceptance level of Windows 8 systems is questionable and is in a lag phase of the graph due to the changes in the pattern introduced. There is a hike in the number of Microsoft problems for Windows 8 from different parts of the world, indicating the adapting phase. What most users see as a trouble in the latest Microsoft Windows 8 operating system are the following.

No start button

People are adjusted to the solutions or paths in Microsoft Windows operating systems starting from the Windows Start button. The Start button is located at the bottom part of the Windows screen, towards the left hand side of the Taskbar. Microsoft does not carry this forward to its new generation operating system, Windows 8. There are changes in the way one can access programs and Control Panel to change settings; this is not in favor of many failing to adapt to this new Windows alignment and arrangement.

Desktop vs tab mode

The tile mode for tablet computers and desktop mode that looks like the older Windows operating system versions comes in Windows 8. The company claims that within no time users are going to start loving tile mode, however desktop mode is also available. The thing is that many programs including Microsoft Office suite is designed for desktop and not tile mode; it was also displeasing that Microsoft Office suite tools became available for Windows 8 only after months of its launch.

Settings inaccessible

The charms to configure wireless settings, restarting your machine and changing computer settings are available on the right side of the screen. It is often difficult to figure out, how to access them in Windows 8. The panel that has to be drawn out from the right side remains a mystery to the first time users.

Closing programs

There is a different pattern accepted, like the one you see on a Smartphone in case of Windows 8 operating system. So, common people have to start finding out, how to close a program in Windows 8 as well.
Microsoft considers Windows 8 as a user-friendly initiative, but many people tired of working out an easier way to work with this system disagree. This operating system also has dual responses and enough number of Microsoft problems, while the youth are already comfortable with the tile mode and pathways of Windows 8, many business people and homemakers are not ready to accept the changes.

Microsoft Outlook Repair Tools

Microsoft Outlook is a very common email client used for personal and business purpose alike. It also doubles as a personal information manager, which includes calendar, task manager, contact manager and journal.
In Outlook, the information that you create are stored as “.pst” files (Personal Storage Files). But then, there is also the issue of its vulnerability in losing data. There is the risk of file getting corrupted while compacting or due to the file size limit of .pst files. Sometimes, compacting .pst files or corrupted header file can make your data inaccessible. Microsoft Outlook lets you recover the corrupted data using the following Microsoft repair techniques.
Problems with MS Outlook
In order to fix such issues, you can either use the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) or an Email Recovery Software. An inbox recovery tool is a preloaded free utility from Microsoft. But the email recovery software is a paid service.
Outlook Repair using Inbox Repair Tool or “Scanpst.exe”
Scanpst.exe is an executable file located in 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033'. You could also download this from the Microsoft website, and copy it to the above mentioned folder. Before you run this program, you should exit Outlook. The permissible size of the .pst file is 2 GB, exceeding which leads to instant corruption. In such cases, use Oversized PST or OST Crop utility first, and then follow up with the Inbox repair tool. The problem with this tool is that it is not efficient enough to repair those corrupted .pst files.
Outlook Repair using Email Recovery Software
If you have failed to fix a problem using Scanpst.exe, email recovery software comes to your rescue. It’s an easy-to-use software and the capability of the software varies from product to product. It’s actually a paid service but the trial version is available to check its capability.
How to use this software
• Install the email recovery software to a healthy drive in your computer. Make sure not to install it in the same drive from which you have lost your data.
• Now you have to attach the drive (containing your lost data) to the healthy drive as a secondary one.
• Run email recovery software to recover and repair the corrupted files.
• Once the files are recovered, save those .pst files to the healthy drive.
The above mentioned Microsoft repair steps should help you fix the PST issues associated with your Microsoft Outlook application. If you need further assistance on this, contact Microsoft Support Center and get your problem fixed quickly.
